Office and Administration

Beth Lawrence

is our current Head of School. She embraces the challenge of honoring the STELC tradition of teaching through exploration and discovery while meeting the academic and scheduling needs of children and families in our community.
Beth is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a M.S., Horticulture Science (1993), a B.S. Cum Laude, Horticulture Science (1990). Most recently, Beth earned her Texas Educator Certificate, Early Childhood-4th Grade (2009). Beth has been with St. Thomas Early Learning center since 2002, serving first as Outdoor Education Teacher. She is married to Dr. Glenn Lawrence, and pediatrician for Scott and White Clinic. They have three children, Thanet, Julia, and Caroline. They are members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and are involved in many activities in the Bryan/College Station area.

Anne Attaway

Anne is the Enrollment Coordinator. Before joining STELC, Anne taught various courses in the Child Development Education Department, including Emergent Literacy and Human Growth and Development at Blinn College. She holds a B.S. in Sociology from Lamar University; a M.S. in Family and Child Studies from Texas State University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has two children who attended STELC, is a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, and is involved in the Junior League of Bryan College Station.

Jodi Sheridan

Jodi is our Extended Care Coordinator, which includes Lunch Bunch, A-Team, and K-Crew. She also manages the Nature Explore classroom and serves as our PE Coach.  Jodi has been sharing her love of nature with our children at STELC since 2004. She earned a B.S. in PE and Health Studies from the University of Iowa where she was a member of the track team. She and her husband, Roger, have 2 children who attended STELC.


Karen Eilers

Karen serves as the Office Assistant at STELC. Karen has been a part of the STELC family for over 30 years as a classroom assistant at all age levels. Karren is married to Howard Eilers and they have a son and a daughter who attended STELC.


Paula Casares

Beginners Teacher
Paula has been a part of the STELC family since 1989 when her youngest son attended Kindergarten. She holds a Child Development Associate degree from Blinn College. Paula truly appreciates the value of play in the social and emotional development of young children.

Christy Brumbelow

Beginners Teacher

Christy’s relationship with STELC began when her oldest daughter attended the Beginners class several years ago.  As a parent volunteer, she served as president of the STELC School Board. Christy earned a B.A. from Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina and taught at the elementary level for eight years. Christy is also a certified Kindermusik instructor, and taught locally for seven years prior to her employment at STELC. Christy, her husband Kelly, and their three daughters are members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. They are outdoor enthusiasts and love STELC’s wonderful connections with children and nature.

Nora Lee Hatch

Beginners and Extended Care Assistant
Nora Lee has been a part of the STELC family since 1990. She and her husband, Stephen, have seven children, twenty two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Nora Lee’s love of children and their families is an asset to the Beginners program.

Hosia Mueller

Beginners and Extended Care Assistant 
A native of Poland, Hosia has great communication skills in any language and an abundance of patience. She holds a B.A. from the University of Adam Mickiewicz in Pozan, Poland in teaching English as a second language and a teaching certification from Teacher Training College in Bydgoszcz, Poland.  She and her husband, Sean, have two daughters who attended STELC.

Elizabeth Mufich

Beginners Assistant
Elizabeth feels that it is honor to be present for what is usually a child’s first classroom experience. The expressiveness of a young child learning or doing something new brings her joy daily. Elizabeth is a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church along with her husband, Martin, and daughter Ellery. She holds a B.S. in Advertising from the University of Texas.


Jin Soon Sagong

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
Jin Soon Sagong has been a fixture at STELC since 1991. She was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea where she graduated from Korea Christian College and taught at Seoul American Elementary School from 1974-1978. After arriving in the U.S. Jin Soon earned a B.S. in Elementary Education from Lubbock Christian College and a M.S. in Early Childhood Education and Multicultural Teaching from Texas Tech University. Mrs. Sagong feels STELC is a peaceful place for her soul and an environment where teaching and learning come naturally

Jennifer Downs

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher
Jennifer has been teaching Pre-K since 2001. She brings quiet confidence, gentleness, and experience into the classroom each morning.  She appreciates the STELC environment that encourages learning through play. Jennifer earned a B.S. in Family Life Education from Utah State University while working and being a mom.

Ulrike Smith

Pre-Kindergarten Assistant

Ulrike was born in Graz, Austria and grew up in a beautiful old city at the foot of the Alps. While on break in the U.S. from her law studies, she met her future husband and moved to Texas. Ulrike holds a B.A. in International Studies from Texas A&M University. Ulrike’s children had the benefit of an STELC education. The delight she feels in being a part of the STELC community is evident every day.              

Angie Solcher

Pre-Kindergarten Assistant
As a parent of four former STELC , Angie values the St. Thomas experience for all families and finds delight in watching her students grow and learn in this creative environment. A registered nurse, she is truly over qualified to administer occasional, requested band aids.

Tracy Sawyer

Pre-Kindergarten Assistant
Tracy believes young children learn best through play and thoughtful, shared experiences. She holds a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University and has several years of classroom teaching experience. Even so, she feels her role as a mother to three dynamic children has best prepared her for the preschool classroom


Mary Altendorf

Kindergarten Teacher
Mary has an Elementary Education degree and has taught in both public and private schools prior to teaching at STELC. She and her husband, Luke, have 4 children who all have wonderful memories of being students at STELC. She has been associated with the school since 1994. She enjoys eating chocolate, watching old movies, and perusing through cookbooks to find the next perfect meal for her family.

Helen Flyn

Kindergarten Teacher
Helen Flyn has been a part of the STELC community since 1998 when her oldest son began Kindergarten. Since then she has spent countless hours on the playground and in the classrooms as a parent volunteer, lead teacher, assistant teacher, and school board member. "Needless to say," she says,  "this school and its people have captured my heart and enriched my life immensely!"

Helen graduated from Texas A&M in 1989 with a B.A. in English and became a certified teacher in the State of Texas in 2013. She and her husband, John, are proud parents of three boys: Creed, Boone, and Kade, all of whom attended STELC.

Carie Garrett

Kindergarten Assistant
Carie began her relationship with the ELC as a parent and continues to be drawn to the school and its environment.  Carie earned a BS in Psychology from Texas A&M University and has many years of experience teaching group fitness classes.  She experienced a metamorphosis when she began incorporating yoga techniques into her classes in 2000.  When not at STELC, she leads yoga workshops nationwide and holds weekly classes locally. She feels life is an incredible, amazing adventure and a journey that's always new and fresh.

Pegan Heyman

Kindergarten Assistant
Pegan began her relationship with STELC when her first child entered Beginners.  She holds a B.S. in Music from Heidleberg College and is a certified teacher.  In addition to working at STELC, Pegan has been a licensed massage therapist for over 20 years and is a Holistic Health Coach. She and her husband, Will, have two sons who both attended STELC. Pegan loves the school’s unique approach to teaching and learning.

Jenny Adams

Kindergarten Assistant
 Jenny's love of being at STELC with the students and their families, as well as the teachers and staff, is evident when she is on campus. She has served this community as a member of the Board of Trustees in addition to being in the classroom. She is an advocate for all children through her work with Voices for Children as a court appointed special advocate. Jenny has served as guardian ad litem for a child in the foster care system for the last five years. She and her husband, Marvin, have three amazing grown sons and are members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

Extended Care

Alayna Hollie

Extended Care Assistant
Alayna is an Education student at Texas A&M University. She is also a professional photographer with Alayna Lynn Photography. The peace Alayna feels by being a part of the STELC family is evident in her interactions with children and their families.


Marilyn Wade

Music Teacher

Mrs. Wade has shared her love of music with students at STELC since 2003. She holds a B.S. in Sociology from Virginia Polytechnic University and is a trained Musikgarten instructor who has worked as a social worker and mother’s day out director.   In addition to her work at STELC, Marilyn is a piano instructor and is active in the Brazos Valley Music Teachers Association.


Mary Skow

Artist in Residence

Mary has been with STELC since 1994. She spent thirteen years in the classroom, and continued with STELC as a consultant for two years before serving as Head of School from 2010 to 2012. Presently, Mary coordinates the Night of the Arts, the annual art show that exhibits art from each student enrolled at STELC. She teaches weekly afternoon art for Kindergarteners, and is an Encore! Art Instructor. She is married to Loren Skow, has two grown sons, two daughters-in-law and four amazing grandchildren who all live in the B/CS area. Mary is a member of the Art League of the Brazos Valley, teaches private art lessons and treasures time with friends and family.


Rev. Jim Said

Rev. Jim Said is a graduate of the Virginia Theological Seminary, where he was the recipient of the 2013 Virginia Seminary Ford Chair, a gift of Susan Ford presented annually to a member of the graduating class who has exhibited a strong commitment to the community life and mission of the Seminary. The Rev. Said was ordained to the priesthood at St. Thomas on January 18, 2014 by his father the Right Revered John L. Said.
